Here we go with a massive attack from Massive Attack in a Bristol style. Seems like today is my UK day. They are back with a new imprint titled “Heligoland” (release date February 2010), which has been produced with support of Damon Albarn from Blur, who also played keyboards in “Splitting The Atom” and sings in “Saturday Come Slow”. The freebie of today now is a collaboration with reggae legend Horace Andy and remixed by up-and-coming Londonian female producer Duo She Is Danger. What else can you ask for? Yeah right, nothing so far. Download below.
Browsing through our magazines and journals lying around at home, I had a look at the latest publishing of the annual doc film festival in Kassel Germany and found this great piece of music and film history: RIP – A Remix Manifesto! Covering all from Walt Disney to copyright and copyleft, Baile Funk, Mash Ups, pop culture and parties that make the world go round, director Brett Gaylor makes a statement. It’s about creative freedom going hand in hand with illegal actions, big companies chasing private persons, it’s a view behind the scenes, a mixture of all genres – and furthermore an introduction to the ill producer Girl Talk. RIP has been on 12 film festivals so far and who knows on how many home computers as well. “A true movie for the digital age with adrenaline fueled performances.” Featured artists next to Girl Talk are Gilberto Gil, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, DJ Sandrinho and others.
As remix is what remix does, you can do whatever you like with the movie, it’s all creative commons! Download it, resample it, make an animation, cut n paste a youtube video, whatever. To get hold of a copy simply visit Ripremix and donate any amount you like. By doing this, they’ll send you a link to download RIP plus lots of Girl Talk footage, as well as another link to the distributor Bside, where you get another independent movie which you can chose for free!
Dear lovely readers, I have to make an announcement. Due to collecting far too much music and ultimately storing it all in mp3 on a hard drive, I have some CD’s left over which enjoyed far to little love during the past month. That’s what brings me round to you! If any of you pals from all over the globe is interested in some very valuable world music, Spanish rarities, remix shit, Asian underground, hip hop, lounge and the like, please read the list below.
I ship anywhere in the world. Conditions depend on each CD and the destination. Some CD’s come naked without booklet and additonal info, some have the whole visual atttractive packaging left. They have lived a life, but they still sing. Contact me for info on each subject here: heartinmigration@gmail.com
Note: This is nothing for the bass, step, techno or house crowd, only for real roots and global diggers.
Now the Sevilla born star will support Wagner Pa and his crew from Brazelona Sessions in Barcelona (where I’d played a few times when still in Barcelona). La Mala will be there for three exclusive shows, starting next tuesday (27th Oct), plus the following two tuesdays (3rd and 10th Nov).
Be there or be square, show starts at 10pm and goes till 12pm, afterwards Brazelona Sessions as usual with electronic cumbia, mashups, brazilian sounds and electronic derivates. Btw, previous guests at the Brazelona Sessions have been Nickodemus, DJ Sabo, Maga Bo and Disco Shawn from Bersa Discos.
The Riva Starr, aka Stefano Miele, remix competition for “I was drunk” feat Noze is on heavy rotation and DJ’s worldwide sample, cut n paste trumpets and beats now.
Here we have a funny remix from Struboskop Crew, based in Vienna (just as me, have to check them out!).
I abused Eugene’s voice again and here we go with another Gogol Bordello Mashup, mixed with some techhouse. I also made a new myspace for Mohak as Miss Blitz is going to be in pause for the next time, so feel free to jump over.
It’s gettin’ forward. Another Sample-Salat found in Balkan here. This time the voice got sampled. As I was cecking through the latest releases, I came across Zgomot who’s doing pretty cool dubstep. Dubstep with some gypsy infusion. And what did I find in the dubstep? Shukar Collectives remarkable wining voice (or at least someone with similar tragic stories to tell). I’m not sure which Shukar song he re-used exactly, but I give you an example to check what I mean. In Zgomot you find the voice in 0:56 and 2:20 and later at the end at 4:40 again.
Midival Punditz are one of the leading bands from the Asian Underground scene having influenced lots of musicians and the rising of electronic Asian music. I’ve been following them for a while and also played some of their stuff before, which never fails to rock.
Now, they drop a new bass heavy album called “Hello Hello” on Six Degrees Records over in San Francisco, which you can prelisten at their website. And here comes a great stomping Remix from In Flagranti (Kitsune). Btw, thanx to Generation Bass, found the infos over there!
